Bordeaux châteaux may soon be able to sell their wines directly to Chinese consumers, thanks to a new web platform being set up by online retail giant Alibaba.

The venture was launched at Château Senailhac, headquarters of Cellar Privilege, the Bordeaux négociant part-owned by billionaire Alibaba founder Jack Ma, who owns Châteaux de Sours and Perenne in the region.

Hubert Lagrue, a courtier in Bordeaux for Gardère-Haramboure, said the platform was both opportunity and threat to brokers and merchants in Bordeaux.
