What I’ve been drinking this month
Hugel, Riesling Vendanges Tardives 1945. I apologise for sharing tasting notes on a wine that is pretty much impossible to get hold of, but we should all celebrate the fact that this wine has not only survived but thrived. A deep amber in colour, this is still living and breathing; a stunning mix of sharp yet rich citrus marmalade with a minty edge typical of the Schoelhammer plot that the grapes come from. An incredible testament to the potential of Alsace.
