Chinese burn

-

SINCE MOVING To shanghai in 2014, we have been surprised by the crippling cost of wine. as an idea, a Barolo from Roagna retailing at £55 in the uK will set you back 950 RmB (about £115). This has forced us to recalibrate how we approach wine drinking. We’ve made a point of getting closer to our wine suppliers in china – proper storage conditions are not a given, so you must find out who is ahead of the game. opening a good bottle has become a treat; we’re more attentive to tasting notes, and to pairing with food, which enhances the overall experience. lastly, it has encouraged us to holiday in wine regions. living here has motivated us to explore, which is some consolation when faced with the price-tags!
