Santa Rita 120

Celebrating 50 years of a Chilean legend

-

Although Chile is considered one of the ‘New World’ wine producing countries, the first Santa Rita wines were exported to international markets as early as 1895.

The majority of Santa Rita’s Cabernet Sauvignon vines are planted in Alto Maipo, an area of alluvial soils located in the foothills of the Andes Mountains. The region’s semi-arid Mediterranean climate offers warm growing days tempered by the cold air filtering down from the Andes at night. The Carneros Vineyard, a small plot within Alto Maipo is where the best of Santa Rita’s Cabernet Sauvignon is grown. Grapes from this plot go into making the iconic Casa Real – the first Chilean wine to be awarded the status of ‘Wine Legend’ by Decanter magazine.

Wines within the Santa Rita portfolio include Medalla Real, Floresta, Pehuen, Triple C and Bougainville with the National Gallery Series a recent addition to the range. This exciting partnership sees

A percentage of the profits of each bottle sold will go to London’s National Gallery, thus helping them with their charitable status and ensuring future generations enjoy the paintings as we do today.

Santa Rita was awarded ‘Winery of the Year 2016’ by Wines of Chile, was recognised as one of the ‘World’s Most Admired Wine Brands’ by Drinks International, and has won numerous awards and accolades for its wines, including a Silver Medal in the Decanter World Wine Awards for Santa Rita 120 Sauvignon Blanc.

The 120 Range

Santa Rita is most famous for the popular ‘120’ range, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2017. The name comes from a local legend that relates how General Bernardo O’Higgins and 120 of his patriots took refuge in the Santa Rita Estates cellars while fighting for independence in 1814. The awardwinning ‘120’ wines are crafted in honour of these heroes in exactly the same cellars.

Distributed to over 80 markets worldwide, Santa Rita 120 is the #1-selling wine in both Chile and Ireland. The ‘120’ wines are made for drinking now: they are elegant, fruity and perfectly balanced with soft tannins and good acidity. Varietals in the range include not only the traditional Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, but also a luscious and rich Viognier, a complex and fruity Cabernet Franc, and a soft and velvety Malbec along with Chile’s signature varietal, a spicy Carmenère. Exceptional value makes ‘120’ an outstanding range of wines for everyday drinking.
