My top three

Susan Hulme MW

Col d’Orcia At a tasting of the estate’s older wines back to the 1960s in February, I was impressed with the direction of some of their younger wines and an increased focus on aromatic precision. This 2012 shows the estate on top form, with its beautiful poise and balance. 97 Drink 2020-2029

Collemassari, Poggio di Sotto Each time I visit Poggio di Sotto I am struck by its beautiful location in the favoured Castelnuovo dell’Abate zone. The thoughtful winemaking team, including Luca Marrone, have produced an exquisitely fine-tuned, pure and precise Sangiovese. 96 Drink 2022-2031

Fattoi One of the hidden gems of Brunello, in the prime location of Pieve Santa Restituta. Artisanal in its approach, Fattoi produces firmly styled Sangiovese that manages to be appealing at the same time. 95 Drink 2020-2027
