Born in Italy’s Friuli region, Besa arrived in London in 1986 and spent 20 years working in hotels and restaurants. In 2001, he set up Astrum Wine Cellars with a team of friends and former trade colleagues, and he remains its managing director, dealing largely in Italian wines. Besa is also a Decanter World Wine Awards judge.
