Storm Callum makes destructive entrance by bringing down tree

Derby Telegraph - - NEWS -

HIGH winds caused problems across Derby last night as Storm Callum reached the city.

This image shows the moment a tree fell down, in Park Road, Chaddesden.

Motorists and pedestrians were being warned to take care while out and about as the storm took hold.

Robert Ratcliffe, 50, was in his van when he came across the fallen tree.

He said: “I was just driving on my way to pick someone up when I saw the tree had fallen in Park Road. It was quite a shocking site and looking at it, it looks like it has fallen right on a car.

“I went past around 3.30pm, so it was lucky that no schoolchildren were walking down there at the time, otherwise it could have been really dangerous.

“I hope all people who go out and about take care and make sure to watch out for trees and their movements. Rainy spells are predicted for today and tomorrow, with cloud covering the skies for much of the day.

Today is set to be slightly warmer than average for October but tomorrow temperatures will drop to around 12C.
