Teenagers in court hearing over robbery

-

THREE teenagers have appeared in court to enter pleas to carrying out a robbery in Long Eaton.

The three, two aged 17 and 18-year-old Kieran Lane, are all alleged to have played a part in the offence on August 19 last year.

A fourth defendant, who is 16, was also due to enter a plea, but he is in a coma in hospital having suffered what the court was told were “very serious injuries” after being assaulted.

Police say a number of individuals went into the property at 9.20pm and demanded a 17-year-old hand over his belongings. They left with a games console, a headset, a Dyson fan and a bag. The victim was unhurt.

Appearing from their respective homes by video link, one of the 17-year-olds, from Long Eaton and whose identity is protected by law, pleaded guilty to the robbery in Wharfedale Road. Lane, of Derby Road, Sandiacre, pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods. The second 17-year-old, from Sawley and who also cannot be named, pleaded not guilty to handling stolen goods. All three were given bail and the case was adjourned to a future date.

Matthew Smith, for the fourth defendant, a 16-year-old from Sawley, was asked about his client’s progress by Recorder Adrian Reynolds. Mr Smith replied: “He remains in critical care in hospital following an assault. His temperature has spiked and he remains unresponsive.”
