WHAT TO DO THIS WEEK
■ WATCH out for scarlet lily beetle and remove it where found – they’re clever bugs and will hop off the stem as you approach so try and cup one hand below to catch them!
■ LOOK out for slugs and snails that may tuck into flowers and leafy veg.
■ PRUNE lupins before they go to seed and you may get a second smaller flush later. Cut back hardy geraniums that have finished flowering to encourage new growth.
■ PEAT-BASED composts can dry out completely, so plants may need a dunking in a bucket of water until all the air bubbles have gone from
the soil.
■ KEEP your bird bath, left, topped up when it’s dry.
