Visit a garden and support good causes
Autumn is a lovely time to appreciate some of Devon’s gardens, and in October there are several opening for charity.
The National Garden Scheme, which raises thousands of pounds for nursing charities, has a number of October openings for autumnal colour.
Andrew’s Corner at Belstone on the edge of Dartmoor (pictured). Open on 21 October, 2pm- 5pm. Admission is £4.00.
Bickham Cottage, Exeter, has glasshouses filled with 3,500 pots with in excess of 450 varieties of nerines. It’s open on 14 October, between 2pm and 5pm. Admission is £4.00
Higher Ash Farm, Dartmouth, has a large kitchen garden terraced into the hillside with an adjoining orchard. Open on 7 October 1.30pm-4.30pm. Admission is £5.00.
Regency House, Hemyock, is a five acre plantsman’s garden with many interesting and unusual trees and shrubs. Open on 14 October, 2pm-5.30pm. Admission is £5.00. For more information and directions please visit ngs.org.uk
