Au­tumn is a lovely time to ap­pre­ci­ate some of Devon’s gar­dens, and in Oc­to­ber there are sev­eral open­ing for char­ity.

The Na­tional Gar­den Scheme, which raises thou­sands of pounds for nurs­ing char­i­ties, has a num­ber of Oc­to­ber open­ings for au­tum­nal colour.

An­drew’s Cor­ner at Bel­stone on the edge of Dart­moor (pic­tured). Open on 21 Oc­to­ber, 2pm- 5pm. Ad­mis­sion is £4.00.

Bick­ham Cot­tage, Ex­eter, has glasshouses filled with 3,500 pots with in ex­cess of 450 va­ri­eties of nerines. It’s open on 14 Oc­to­ber, be­tween 2pm and 5pm. Ad­mis­sion is £4.00

Higher Ash Farm, Dart­mouth, has a large kitchen gar­den ter­raced into the hill­side with an ad­join­ing or­chard. Open on 7 Oc­to­ber 1.30pm-4.30pm. Ad­mis­sion is £5.00.
