The group has chosen an innovative design by architect Steve Eastland, with an unusual ‘sail’ roof which has to be tall enough for the scouts to practise hoisting and rigging a sail inside the building.

Steve says: ‘The Sea Scouts were also keen to have a building that reflects their function and activities as sea scouts. We drew inspiration for the design from the boats on the river, reflecting the movement of the river and the form of the boats in the shape of the roof. We also drew on the presence of the old boats and wrecks on both sides of the river to inspire the shape, form and finishes of the building.’
