Bringing a delicious Devon WOW factor
The team at Sandy Park reveal the secrets of hosting a glittering awards ceremony for some very discerning diners
For the twelfth year running, one of Devon’s premier event venues – Sandy Park – will host the Devon Life Food & Drink awards. We asked their team to give us a sneak peek behind-the-scenes to reveal what goes into creating this sort of show-stopping occasion:
The Devon Life Food and Drinks Awards are something of an institution at Sandy Park. The Awards have been held here since 2007, and every year we work to make them even more special.
Preparation starts during the summer, when our head chef and his team begin work on a bespoke menu. As the aim of the awards is to celebrate the amazing produce available in Devon, the event is a showcase of a range of local suppliers and producers.
Sandy Park’s head chef, Craig Beacham, says: “From a chef’s perspective, the great thing about hosting the Devon Life awards is being able to use and celebrate the local and unsung heroes of Devon. The event proves that we have some of the best produce and suppliers in the UK.
“It’s also a great opportunity for the team here to push the menu here at Sandy Park to the next level.”
As well as being the venue host, Sandy Park also sponsor an award category. This gives the team a chance to be part of the judging process, visiting food and drink businesses throughout the region to choose a winner and granting a real insight into the industry and its contribution to Devon’s economy.
In the weeks leading up to the event, it’s a flurry of activity with final details being confirmed and the preparation of our largest space, the Exeter Suite, beginning. The room is transformed from a blank canvas into a bona fide awards ceremony, set-up for 300 diners, with a stage and of course, enough room to end the night dancing to the band!
We look forward to hosting the Devon Life Food and Drink Awards each year, and hope they continue for another 12 years (and beyond!).
The 2018 Devon Life Food & Drink Awards take place on 15 November at Sandy Park.
