Add detail where it’s needed
The exposure in Brandon’s shot is really good and he’s used lanterns inside the B-52E’S fuselage to bring out the detail there. Some areas of intriguing detail are still a little dark, though, so here we’ve duplicated the photo with Ctrl+j and used Image>adjustments>shadows/highlights to add +10 on the Shadows slider. To localise this, we went to Layer>layerMask>hide All, adding a black layer mask to the layer, and then used the Brush tool set to White to paint into the darker areas as required. We also gave a boost to the colours by adding a Hue/saturation Adjustment Layer and increasing the Saturation by +25.
The Shadows/highlights command is easy to abuse, but when used with care it’s a valuable tool.
