Metz goes com­pact

Third-party light­ing man­u­fac­turer Metz has pulled the cov­ers off a com­pact but light­weight flash­gun, the Me­cab­itz M400. Suited to mir­ror­less cam­era that are lighter and smaller than DSLRS, the M400 is pow­ered by four Aa-sized NIMH recharge­able, al­ka­line-mag­ne­sium or lithium bat­ter­ies and has a max­i­mum Guide Num­ber of 40 (ISO 100). De­pend­ing on the make and model of your cam­era, the strobe of­fers TTL me­ter­ing to give ac­cu­rate power out­put, plus it comes with an ad­justable LED mod­el­ling light. Other fea­tures of note in­clude high-speed sync ca­pa­bil­ity and a USB slot so you can up­date the flash­gun’s firmware. Avail­able for Canon, Nikon, Mi­cro Four Thirds, Pen­tax, Sony and Fuji fit­tings, the M400 is on sale now at around£239.
