GOOGLE DROPS NIK

Digital SLR Photography - - Snapshots -

Many saw it coming, but Google has now dropped support for the excellent Nik Collection editing suite. After acquiring Nik back in 2012, Google focused its efforts on Nik’s Snapseed mobile software, turning it into one of the most popular photo editing apps today. After chopping back the price of the Nik Collection drastically, Google finally decided to give the software away completely free of charge in 2016. This, it seems, was the start of the end, and all support and development of the Nik Collection has now been culled. The good news is that you can still download and use the software for free, however after further OS updates, who knows if it’ll continue to work in the future. It may be that Google decides to make the Nik Collection open source, meaning that home developers can continue to adapt the software for use for many years to come. Fingers crossed! You can download the software at: www. google. com/ nikcollection/
