“Bamburgh is a very familiar location, and one of my favourites in the UK. The castle is so imposing, even when it's relatively small in the frame, and the beach offers loads of foreground potential. The element of Deborah's image that stands out is the beautiful sky – I love the cloud formations and their reflections in the wet sand. Other than that, unfortunately, the composition doesn't really grab me. I would have probably made more of a feature of the sky, as the foreground isn't particularly exciting, and placed the castle on the bottom right third for compositional balance. The light is also flat. Bamburgh Castle is lit by the evening sun, although on this occasion it must have been hidden in cloud, or had dropped too low. When it does appear, the difference it makes is amazing. Apologies if this seems harsh, but when dealing with an iconic location that has been photographed so many times, it's very difficult to compete with what's already out there.”
