Are you ready to make the most of the arrival of autumn?

WELCOME TO THE NOVEMBER 2017 issue of Digital SLR Photography. As the summer draws to a close and autumn begins, it’s natural to turn your thoughts to two opposing ends of the photographic scale: colour and black & white. The transformation of the landscape from greens to gold draws outdoor photographers to woodlands, parks and forests across the nation in search of dramatic and colourful images. With the opportunity lasting only a handful of weeks, it’s best to be ready to take advantage – our guide starting on page 51 provides a range of ideas and techniques to try. The onset of autumn is often the time when many photographers turn their attention to black & white photography too – as the weather takes a turn for the worse and landscapes look bare and barren, capturing moody monochrome images is a natural progression. In our Beginner’s Guide ( page 68), we’ll explain how to set up your camera and ‘ think mono’ to help you capture and edit black & white images for a range of subjects. Our issue also provides a wealth of expert advice on other techniques, including portraits, close- ups and landscapes, along with authoritative reviews of a variety of kit. We hope you find it an enjoyable and educational read. All the best!
