We know what you’re thinking. “Oh great, another lesbian film directed by a man.” But Kerem Sanga is not Abdellatif Kechiche, and First Girl I Loved is not Blue Is The Warmest Colour. Inspired by his own sister’s coming out, the film stars Dylan Gelula (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) as Anne, who falls in love with Brianna Hildebrand’s character, Sasha, star of the high school softball team (obvs). But when Anne tells best friend Clifton about her feelings, he does everything he can to sabotage this blossoming romance. Sanga’s film is a wonderful queer romance exploring coming out, youth support and consent, issues close to many of our hearts. Available to watch on demand from 13 March
