DIVA editor 2004-2017
It’s hard to think of a more deserving first entry into our Hall of Fame than Jane Czyselska, DIVA’S longest-standing editor and the woman who has made the magazine what it is today. Writing for DIVA since its early years, she became editor in 2004, and under her principled leadership, the magazine has grown to become the leading voice for lesbian, bisexual, queer and trans women across the UK and Europe. In her 13-year tenure, Jane worked day and night to raise the profile, status and self-worth of lesbians and bi women, and put the issues affecting our lives firmly in the public eye. She became a journalist, she says, because she didn’t see her voice reflected in newspapers and magazines and it was her desire to bring marginalised voices to the fore that has made her one of the most respected names in our community and in journalism. Jane has made a lasting difference to lez/bi culture and the wider LGBT community, and her tireless work has earned her a much-deserved place on the Independent’s Rainbow List, the World Pride Power List, and more.
