Church suspends minister
An elderly Gretna minister has been suspended while an investigation is carried out into finances at his church.
Rev Bryan Haston, of Gretna Old Parish, was placed under “administrative suspension” when the The Church of Scotland launched its probe this week.
A spokesperson for the church said: “The minister has been placed under administrative suspension while an internal investigation into the church’s finances, which is currently under way, runs its course.
“It would be inappropriate to make any further comment at this time.”
Police Scotland say they have not been contacted about the investigation.
In 2015, Rev Haston, who is in his 70s, led a service marking the 100th anniversary of the Quintinshill rail disaster attended by the Princess Royal and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
