Youth de­nies fir­ing air pis­tol

A teenager has been ac­cused in court of fir­ing an air pis­tol in a house at Locker­bie.

The pel­lets al­legedly fired by Ali Bent­ley, 19, of Em­pire Way, Gretna, were said to have struck a wall and a front door.

Bent­ley pleaded not guilty at Dum­fries Sher­iff Court to com­mit­ting the of­fence in July last year at Well Road in Locker­bie.

He also de­nied be­hav­ing in a threat­en­ing or abu­sive man­ner and set­ting off fire­works in the house.

Trial has been set for Jan­uary.

■ Two Cana­dian doc­tors have ap­peared in court at Dum­fries on mo­tor­ing of­fences.

Bar­bara Hong Zhao, 54, pleaded not guilty to driv­ing care­lessly in St Mary’s Street, Kirkcud­bright, and col­lid­ing with a parked and unat­tended parked car and us­ing a car with­out in­sur­ance.

Paul Davis, 71, de­nied caus­ing and per­mit­ting her to use a ve­hi­cle with­out in­sur­ance.

Trial was set for Jan­uary.

■ A Cas­tle Dou­glas man has been ac­cused in court of send­ing of­fen­sive mes­sages to an ex­part­ner mak­ing deroga­tory re­marks and threats of vi­o­lence.

Philip Tate, 25, of Roys­ton Road, pleaded not guilty to phon­ing her re­peat­edly and send­ing text mes­sages be­tween Au­gust 15 and Septem­ber 3 at Meadow View and shout­ing and swear­ing.

He also de­nied that at Crock­et­ford in the course of a jour­ney to Dum­fries he be­haved in a threat­en­ing man­ner by shout­ing and swear­ing and mak­ing threats of vi­o­lence to­ward po­lice of­fi­cers.

Trial at Dum­fries Sher­iff Court has been set for Novem­ber.

■ A van driver has been ac­cused in court of fall­ing asleep at the wheel and col­lid­ing with a car at the junc­tion of the A75 and A701 roads on the out­skirts of Dum­fries.

Twenty-seven-year-old Ai­den Shut­tle­worth, of Wood­sideTer­race, Dum­fries, pleaded not guilty at the town’s sher­iff court to a charge of driv­ing dan­ger­ously in June and cross­ing into the op­pos­ing car­riage­way.

Trial has been set for Jan­uary.
