Brothers help lift top title

Dumfries & Galloway Standard - - NEWS -

Lockerbie brothers Chris and Steven Gray won the grade 1 World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, playing with Inveraray and District Pipe Band.

Their outstanding achievement has come on the back of a lot of hard work and determination.

The pair were originally taught from a very early age by the late Tony MacDonald.

In the early days, they played with Lochmaben Royal Burgh and Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary Pipe Bands before joining Inveraray six years ago, aged 15 and 17.

The band won their first major competition three years ago at the European championship held at Forres.

This year has been the band’s most successful yet with wins at the British, European and Scottish Championships.

Chris and Steven have both achieved success with the band while at university.

Steven is undertaking a research PhD at Edinburgh University after graduating from St Andrews University with a First Class Masters degree in Chemistry.

Christopher also recently graduated from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with a Bachelor of Traditional Music with First class Honours and is about to commence his Master’s degree.
