Seeing the money
Staff and customers at Specsavers in Dumfries dedicated a week to raising awareness of diabetes – and raised hundreds of pounds for charity in the process.
The team at the store in the Loreburne Shopping Centre donated £1 for every diabetes screening test carried out during Diabetes Awareness Week (from 11 to 17 June) and raised £349 in the process. All of the money will be donated to Diabetes UK. Specsavers Dumfries store director Jill Dickson said:“As optical and audiology specialists, it’s so important for us to raise awareness of all of the services we provide and of how our screening tests can help to detect a whole range of health conditions.
“A person with diabetes is 25 times more at risk of going blind than someone without the condition. Early detection of any problems can be crucial in helping to prevent blindness, so it’s vital that we make people aware that this service is available.
“We’re very proud to have collected such a fantastic amount for Diabetes UK and hope that we’ve helped raise awareness of the condition.”
