NC Che­viot sale

Har­ri­son and Hether­ing­ton’s an­nual show and sale of North Coun­try Che­viot and Hill Che­viot wed­der lambs was held at Locker­bie on Tues­day, at­tract­ing a su­perb show of 1000.

The pre-sale show was ca­pa­bly judged by Mr Neil Con­aghan, West Scales, who awarded the fol­low­ing prizes:

Che­viot wether lambs: 1 R J Men­zies & Co, Chan­lock­foot, Thorn­hill £58; 2 R H Pa­ton, Gates­lack, Thorn­hill £54.50; 3 D & A Telfer, Cleuch­foot Farm, Langholm £50.

Cham­pion: R J Men­zies & Co, Chan­lock­foot, Thorn­hill £58.

Lambs looked par­tic­u­larly well con­sid­er­ing the in­clement weather and the cham­pi­onship was awarded to Messrs R J Men­zie & Co, Chan­lock­foot, Thorn­hill, which later went on to sell to £58 per life to Mr Kevin Saun­ders.

Sec­ond prize went to Cas­tle Craw­ford which sold to £54.50 and third prize went to Cleuch­foot and sold to £50. Outwith the prize win­ners, a mar­vel­lous pen from Stirk­field Farms sold to £56. The over­all sale av­er­aged £49.27. Lead­ing prices: Hill Che­viot £58 Chan­lock­foot, £56, £51.50 Stirks­field Farms, £54.50, £48 Gates­lack, £50, £47.50 Cleuch­foot Farm, £48.50 Ward­law, £48.50, £43.50 Dres­set­land Farm, £47.50 Cos­sarshill, £46 Hop­srig, Texel £51.50, £50.50 High Road.
