The battle to save Glasgow University’s place at the Crichton was won.
The Scottish Executive bowed to public pressure after a seven-month campaign backed by the Standard and drafted in a £1.5 million rescue package.
The move meant that the university’s future in Dumfries was secured. And plans were in place for an expansion at the Crichton campus in what was heralded as a“new era”. Crichton campus boss Ted Cowan, proclaimed it as an“outstanding victory.”
