Mennock SWI

Dumfries & Galloway Standard - - DISTRICT NEWS -

Mennock SWI president Betty Burns welcomed members and visitors to the first meeting of the new session.

Congratulations were extended to Mima Telfer who was highly commended in the SWI national competition for a poem to mark the 100th anniversary of the organisation and to those who had seen successful over the summer at various shows.

Particular attention was drawn to the Sanquhar Flower Show where Elizabeth Williamson had achieved a first in the special class for an article using Sanquhar pattern and Mags Wilson who had been awarded the Castleview Quaich for best exhibit in the industrial section, in recognition of her magnificent machine patchwork quilt.

There had been an unexpected hitch, leaving the meeting without a demonstrator on floral art. Mima stood in and demonstrrated the skills that had seen her come away with three firsts, one second and best in show at the 2017 Ayr Flower Show.

The president asked everyone to join her in thanking Mima for stepping in at the last minute, with such an enjoyable demonstration.
