Some of the country’s top curlers were putting in hours of training at Dumfries Ice Bowl. Stranraer’s Hammy and Gayle McMillan and Norman Brown were in contention for a place in the British Olympic squad. The Dumfries rink was one of the first to have its ice in place and the top local curlers were not slow to take advantage of this. Our picture shows the curling team of, from left, Hammy and Gayle McMilland and Norman Brown being helped out by council convener Allan Baldwick, left, and Chris Cook, also from the council.
