A partnership agreement will see £7,650 invested into local sport in Annandale and Eskdale.
Magnox Limited and the council’s Active Schools for Community Sport in Annandale and Eskdale team are celebrating their on-going sports partnership agreement – now into its 10th successive year.
Sean Marshall, Magnox Limited communications and socio-economics lead officer, was joined by Councillor Jeff Leaver, chairman of the council’s Children, Young People and Lifelong Learning Committee, to sign the partnership agreement this week.
They were joined by young people from Annan Academy who are part of a young leadership academy programme.
The investment will support the on-going Physical Education, Physical Activity and Sport (PEPAS) calendar which is developed and delivered in partnership with schools, teachers and sports clubs across Annandale and Eskdale and covers 23 school and community sports events in the next academic year.
Part of the funding from Magnox will also be used to develop the next generation of future sport coaches, leaders and teachers to help meet the growing demand for sport and physical activity across the area.
Councillor Leaver said:“This continued support from Magnox Limited is excellent and we must recognise how this funding can make a significant impact for schools, young people and the community in our area.”
Mr Marshall said:“This is the 10th year in which Magnox Limited has been involved in this successful local partnership.
“We at Chapelcross are delighted to not only enter into this agreement again but have more than double the amount awarded this year to help develop employment and training opportunities in sports coaching for young people in our region. This will give thousands of young people the opportunity to participate in a diverse range of sporting opportunities and events and help some on the road to achievements at local, regional, national and even international level.”
Welcome help Sean Marshall and Jeff Leaver sign the partnership agreement. Looking on are young people from Annan Academy who are part of a Young Leadership Academy Programme with Active Schools and Community Sport.
