Relay strong competition
A record 62 primary school teams took part in the Annandale and Eskdale road relay finals at the Everholm running track in Annan this week.
The event, organised by the council’s Active Schools and Community Sport team, was for P6 and P7 pupils with teams of three children running 1200m in a relay-style event.
Newington Primary A teams won both the boys and girls P7 competition and Langholm Primary teams won both the P6 boys and girls competition.
The prizes were presented by Keith Drysdale for sponsors Magnox Limited, who said: “There was an excellent turnout of children and teams at the Everholm running track for the road relay finals.
“The effort and enthusiasm by all was great to see. The levels of participation showed another record entry. Hopefully these events can unearth one of the future stars of athletics.”
Chairman of the Children, Young People and Lifelong Learning Committee, Councillor Jeff Leaver, said:“It’s great to see another large turnout from schools across Annandale and Eskdale for this sporting event. An increase on the number of teams competing from the previous year is very encouraging. Events such as this support children to be healthy and active and raise ambitions and attainment.” Results: P6 girls: 1 Langholm Primary; 2 Newington Primary A; 3 Lochmaben Primary
