River and castle races for Harriers
dH Runners River Race 10km
Jane Lenza was the sole harrier to compete in the inaugural 10km River Race at Denton, near Carlisle on Sunday, October 29, organised by DH Runners.
The race followed an out and back route along a pedestrianised cycle path, leaving Holme Head House, Denton towards Dalston before returning. The course was largely flat with a slight uphill towards the finish and the 175 participants enjoyed sunny but cool weather.
Jane was happy to support DH runners in their first organised run and had no real aim for the race. She has had “up and down” running over the past few months, battling recurrent injury and tired legs, so Jane was pleased to cross the finish line in 63 minutes and enjoyed a lovely sociable buffet with the other runners at the end of the race.
Lancaster castle Half marathon
For the second successive year, Dumfries Harrier Willie Martin took part in the Lancaster Castle Half Marathon on Sunday, November 5.
He had the support of his wife and a friend as he embarked on this 13.1 mile race along a flat fast course.
The weather remained fine as the 470 competitors completed the route.
Willie was aiming to achieve a time for his bronze club standard award and was pleased Took part in the Lancaster Castle Half Marathon
to be able to success in this aim, despite running into a post at one of the water stops.
He completed the race in one hour 33 minutes 24 seconds, a couple of minutes short of a PB, in 57th position overall and earning him fourth place in the men’s V50 category.
He is now targeting the Brampton to Carlisle 10-mile race this month as the season draws to a close.
