Cham­pi­onship medals for mum and daugh­ter

It was a fam­ily af­fair at the week­end’s Ikkaido Dis­abil­ity Karate Cham­pi­onships for a Mof­fat mum and daugh­ter.

Mum Gil­lian and daugh­ter Katy Turner, mem­bers of Ya­makai Karate Mof­fat trav­elled for the com­pe­ti­tion, which took place on Satur­day, Novem­ber 4 at Stoke Man­dev­ille Cen­tre.

It was the first time in their two years’ train­ing that the pair com­peted.

Gil­lian gained first place in her Kata sec­tion, Katy, 27, gained sec­ond place in her Kata sec­tion and they both achieved third place in the pairs Kata.

Phil McGarry, Chief In­struc­tor And Founder of Ya­makai Karate Mof­fat, said: “The club is very proud of them both.

“They are very com­mit­ted and they never miss a class, this was their very first com­pe­ti­tion and to travel to Lon­don and then on to Stoke Man­dev­ille Cen­tre - the birth­place of dis­abil­ity ath­let­ics - was a huge en­deav­our.”
