Championship medals for mum and daughter
It was a family affair at the weekend’s Ikkaido Disability Karate Championships for a Moffat mum and daughter.
Mum Gillian and daughter Katy Turner, members of Yamakai Karate Moffat travelled for the competition, which took place on Saturday, November 4 at Stoke Mandeville Centre.
It was the first time in their two years’ training that the pair competed.
Gillian gained first place in her Kata section, Katy, 27, gained second place in her Kata section and they both achieved third place in the pairs Kata.
Phil McGarry, Chief Instructor And Founder of Yamakai Karate Moffat, said: “The club is very proud of them both.
“They are very committed and they never miss a class, this was their very first competition and to travel to London and then on to Stoke Mandeville Centre - the birthplace of disability athletics - was a huge endeavour.”
