Solway Sharks ladies, who remain unbeaten so far this season, played their third league fixture away against Sheffield Shadows on Saturday.

The Sharks were boosted by the return of top points scorer from last year Beth Milne.

The first period started with both teams evenly matched but an outstanding goal from Shadows Hazel Wilson in front of Sharks’ net-minder Rebekah Scott put them 1-0 in front after seven minutes.

The Sharks applied the pressure and equalised after 11 minutes through Megan Gourlay assisted by Rebecca Nicol to make it 1-1.

With the Sharks well on top, they scored their second through captain Karen Craig assisted by Gourlay to make the end of period score 2-1 to the Sharks.

The second period saw the Dumfries team out shoot their opponents 16 to three but they couldn’t find a way past Rachel Rawson in the Shadows nets.

In the third period, and after a quiet word in the forwards’ ears by coach Butters, the Sharks scored their third after two minutes through Milne assisted by Gourlay.

Five minutes later defenceman Rebecca Nicol scored the Sharks fourth in 46 minutes assisted by Gourlay and a minute later the fifth was scored by Gourlay in 47 minutes.

The Shadows Hazel Wilson scored her second in 48 minutes and Shadows second to leave the final score 5-2 to the Sharks.

Spirit of the game went to Megan Gourlay.
