Civil Service Strollers ...... 4 Dalbeattie Star ................ 1

Dalbeattie Star have been knocked out of the South Region Challenge Cup.

Civil Service Strollers beat them 4-1 at Christie Gillies Park in Edinburgh.

Both teams started well and looked a threat going forward before Strollers got the opening goal.

It was a huge clearance that was badly misjudged by the Star back line and new signing Scott Gormley ran clear to beat Vinnie Parker with a cool, composed finish.

Just two minutes after going behind, Star thought they should have been awarded a penalty when keeper Kyle Rankin went to punch the ball but flattened Tommy Muir. Appeals were waved away.

With 20 minutes on the clock Star deservedly equalised against the run of play.

Mark McKenna did well to win back possession deep in the Strollers half and he played an excellent ball that split open the home defence to send Muir clear. He took a touch and rolled the ball into the net.

Star had a few attempts to go ahead through Parker and Greig Thorburn before things went wrong with half an hour gone.

Hugh Cameron was caught in possession just outside his own penalty area by Gormley and, as the striker ran in on goal, Cameron conceded a penalty and Jack Downie’s shot was turned in.

It was soon 3-1 when David Churchill scored with a free header.

The game was over in the 67th minute when Jack Downie wrapped an effort around Parker in the Star goal.

• Gretna 2008 were without a game at the weekend.
