OAP ROBBED

Horrific ordeal

Dumfries & Galloway Standard - - NEWS - Jackie Grant

A terrified pensioner was in her home when two men walked in, rifled through the house, and then left with a four-figure sum of cash.

Police are now looking for the pair, who robbed the 87-year-old woman’s house at Newbridge just outside Dumfries.

The brazen duo went into the house around 11am on Monday and started searching around while the distressed woman looked on.

When they left a short time later, she realised the money had been taken and phoned police.

Constable Keith Beattie described it as an “horrific experience” for the traumatised woman, who lives on her own.

He added: “To have two complete strangers enter her home and start to search through it, in broad daylight in front of her, was horrific.

“The only description we have is of one of the men, who is described as being around 20 years of age, white, slim build, black hair and had a thin hair line around his jaw line and was wearing a white long sleeve top and dark bottoms. The second male cannot be described.

“I am seeking the help of the public in relation to helping us identify these two men. If anyone was in the Newbridge village area on Monday, or if anyone has any information about this crime then we want to hear from them.”

Callers can contact police at Dumfries on the 101 number.
