Should we press-gang NHS staff?

Dumfries & Galloway Standard - - STANDARD VIEW - C Mitchell Annan Road Dumfries

Sir – I see Colin Smyth Labour MSP considers it the fault of the current Scottish Government that the health board is struggling to fill medical posts.

Well , what a surprise that he should come to that conclusion.

He tells us Labour has set up a workforce commission to tackle the problem, without giving any clue as to what their options would be.

Of course, Labour always has solutions to problems when in opposition but seem to lose them when in power (the dog ate it, sir!)

What should any Scottish Government do to encourage medical staff to move to the area?

Press-gang them like in centuries gone by when that is how the navy got its men?

Many medical people prefer a move to a city with all that can offer and that is why it is hard for rural areas to entice them, nothing to do with the mismanagement of our local NHS.
