Cel­e­bra­tion of achieve­ments

Niths­dale young­sters have been hon­oured for their hard work and ded­i­ca­tion in the re­gion’s Young Peo­ple 2018 Pro­gramme.

The Cel­e­bra­tion of Achieve­ments Awards was staged at North West Com­mu­nity Cam­pus.

And the list of projects be­ing recog­nised by the coun­cil were – the Youth En­quiry Ser­vice, Happy Feet, Dum­fries Open Duke of Ed­in­burgh’s Award Cen­tre, Cham­pi­ons Board/ Lis­ten2Us, Scot­tish Youth Par­lia­ment and sum­mer camps.

Through these ac­tiv­i­ties, the young peo­ple achieved Dy­namic Youth Awards, Saltire Awards, Duke of Ed­in­burgh’s Award, SQA Per­sonal Achieve­ment Gold Award, Par­tic­i­pa­tory Democ­racy Cer­tifi­cate, John Muir Awards, and the NHS Seen and Heard Award.

The coun­cil’s Young Peo­ple’s Cham­pion, Coun­cil­lor Adam Wil­son said: “Our coun­cil de­vel­oped and im­ple­mented an am­bi­tious and bold Year of Young Peo­ple 2018 plan.

“I am de­lighted to see that eight months in it has al­ready been a huge suc­cess and this cel­e­bra­tion of achieve­ment event proves that.

“We have been able to thank so many young peo­ple for the hours of vol­un­teer­ing they have com­mit­ted and much of this ac­tiv­ity is a di­rect re­sult our Year of Young Peo­ple plan.

“The dif­fer­ence our young peo­ple have made to our lo­cal com­mu­ni­ties, and our re­gion as a whole, is im­mense and it was only right that we con­grat­u­late our young peo­ple for all their ef­forts and hard work.

“Once again I would like to con­grat­u­late all of the young peo­ple on their achieve­ments.”

The coun­cil’s young per­sons ser­vice has just restarted af­ter the sum­mer break.
