Ju­niors com­pete for Donaldson Cup

Dorothy Young (cen­tre) from Dum­fries and County re­ceives the Uniroyal Tro­phy from Thorn­hill ladies cap­tain Lynda Bryson along with Eileen Scott, as­so­ci­a­tion pres­i­dent. Run­ner up was Diane Mac­don­ald also D&C, third was Shona Weir from Thorn­hill, fourth was Caro­line Ed­ward from Pow­foot and fifth was Eleanor Blount from Dum­fries and Gal­loway.

The fi­nal of Dum­friesshire Does The Mail on Sun­day was con­tested by Lochmaben and the Crich­ton. The Crich­ton ladies emerged as win­ners, how­ever, it was a very close match, go­ing down to the last game on the course. Nearly 30 com­peti­tors took part in the Mur­ray Farm­care­spon­sored com­pe­ti­tion which was played in difficult con­di­tions.

The win­ner was David Sharp 70-6=64 who judged out Ben Carmichael. The scratch win­ner was Fin­lay Co­p­land 75. First class: 1 D Sharp; 2 J March­bank 75-3=72 bih; 3 G Irvine 78-6=72.

Sec­ond class: 1 B Carmichael 80-15=65; 2 M Hunter 9630=66; 3 C McKen­zie 80-11=69. Midi Donaldson (11 holes): 1 A Bry­den 61; 2 R Black 88. Mini Donaldson (7 holes): 1 C Mor­ris 46; 2 L Mur­phy 57; 3 C McLuskie 60.

The ju­nior or­gan­is­ers at the club would like to con­grat­u­late all the play­ers who took part in the com­pe­ti­tion and thank head green­keeper Steven and his staff for the way the course was pre­sented un­der try­ing con­di­tions.

They are also grate­ful to Mur­ray Farm­care, in par­tic­u­lar An­drew Cairns, for the gen­er­ous spon­sor­ship.
