Sports coun­cil seeks nom­i­na­tions

The hunt for Niths­dale’s top sport­ing stars is well un­der­way.

The Niths­dale Sports Coun­cil awards cer­e­mony will take place at The Usual Place in Academy Street, Dum­fries, on Fri­day, Novem­ber 6.

Or­gan­is­ers are now look­ing for nom­i­nees in a range of cat­e­gories.

The awards are a great chance for suc­cess­ful lo­cal sports­men and women to be recog­nised for their hard work and achieve­ments. There are 15 awards up for grabs. The most coveted prizes are the male and fe­male sports per­son­al­ity of the year ti­tles.

Last year they were won by golfer Liam John­ston and curler So­phie Jack­son for their ex­ploits at home and abroad.

Team of the year and club of the year are also likely to be hotly con­tested. Dum­fries Y Gym­nas­tics won club of the year in its 40th year af­ter num­bers rose from 30 to 110.

Michael Goldie won club vol­un­teer of the year for his work as Dum­fries Ten­nis Club con­vener.

There are also awards for the top coach, best ju­nior team, the male and fe­male young sports per­son­al­ity awards, dis­abil­ity sports per­son­al­ity and dis­abil­ity coach, as well as the award for ser­vices to sport.
