‘Lang clash couldbe closecall
Annan travel to Cambuslang tomorrow.
This will be the 18th clash between the teams. They first met in 1997 at the Everholm.
Annan ran out winners that day. Since then the teams have met every few years. At home Annan have a record of played eight, won six, while away at Cambuslang it’s played nine, won six. So overall its 12 wins for Annan six for Cambuslang.
The teams met earlier this season in the Shield when Annan won by a point 2524 thanks to a last minute penalty kick from Jonny Callaghan. Alas for Annan they had to pull out of the Shield the following week.
Both teams will be wanting the win and a bonus point to keep up their top three, if not promotion, ambitions.
Cambuslang have a couple of games in the following weeks versus the teams currently bottom and second bottom, so they have a chance to put on a decent run. For Annan, a win on Saturday would be a great boost to take into the following week’s home derby match v Stewartry.
Annan 2nd XV are also on the road for their latest league game, travelling to Ardrossan. Their game at the weekend against Cumnock was postponed at the request of Cumnock 2nd XV due to a death at the club.
The players will be wanting to get some game time after a stop-start to the West Reserve 2 season. Annan are bottom but they have games in hand over most of the other teams. When the 2nd XV get the numbers, they can compete with any team in this division.
