The second round of the Haig Gordon Cup takes place in South football this weekend with some exciting ties in prospect.
High-flying Abbey Vale take on the youngsters from Queen of the South for a match that is likely to be close but where home advantage could be the deciding factor.
Upper Annandale visit Galabank to play Annan Athletic with the Moffat side expected to progress, while joint league leaders Bonnyton will start as favourites to go through at the expense of Lochmaben.
Creetown will have their work cut out when they host Heston Rovers at Castle Cary Park and it may take extra-time to find a winner.
The match at Sanquhar, where Nithsdale Wanderers welcome Lochar Thistle, is another that could be fairly even. Although the Dumfries side are enjoying good league form, the home side are more than capable of progressing from this tie.
St Cuthbert Wanderers and Newton Stewart meet for the second week in succession at St Mary’s Park and, following last week’s seven goals to one rout, the home side will go into this tie with confidence.
The match at Stair Park, where Stranraer host Mid Annandale, is another match that could go close but current form would suggest a win for the home side.
There is a full programme of SFA Regional Challenge Cup second ties due to be played with Threave Rovers the only club left flying the flag for the South.
They are away to Lowland League side BSC Glasgow with the home side more likely to progress.
The final Haig Gordon round two match takes place on Wednesday evening when Threave Rovers take on Lowland League side Edusport Academy for a match the senior side are expected to win, although not before overcoming a strong challenge from the Castle Douglas side.
