As­sault charges

A man has ap­peared in court on three charges of as­sault­ing a woman on three oc­ca­sions in al­most 18 months.

Con­nor McLaugh­lin, 23, of Wood­cock­air Street, Bry­dekirk, pleaded not guilty at Dumfries Sher­iff Court and will face trial later in the month.

He de­nied strik­ing the woman on the head at Vic­tory Av­enue in Gretna in April last year and, at Wood­cock­air Street the fol­low­ing month, seiz­ing her by the neck and com­press­ing it as well as, in Septem­ber this year at that same ad­dress, seiz­ing her, throw­ing her onto a chair and sit­ting astride her re­strict­ing her move­ments.

■ A mo­torist is to face trial on a charge of driv­ing dan­ger­ously on the A7 road near Langholm.

Adam Todd, 40, of Moorville Drive South, Carlisle, pleaded not guilty at Dumfries Sher­iff Court to com­mit­ting the of­fence near Hoghill Farm in Au­gust.

The charge al­leges he failed to obey traf­fic mark­ings and lane dis­ci­pline, drove onto the op­pos­ing car­riage­way in the path of on­com­ing ve­hi­cles and col­lided with two ve­hi­cles whose oc­cu­pants were in­jured, struck the verge and left­the car­riage­way.

Trial has been set for Fe­bru­ary.

■ A 28-year-old man who be­haved in a threat­en­ing or abu­sive man­ner to­wards his former part­ner, has been fined £220 and or­dered to pay com­pen­sa­tion of £260.

Ja­son Walsh, of Burn­side Cot­tage, Canon­bie, ad­mit­ted, at Dumfries Sher­iff Court, shout­ing, swear­ing and mak­ing of­fen­sive re­marks and threats to­wards her in Septem­ber.

■ A case at Dumfries Sher­iff Court in which a man ad­mit­ted as­sault­ing his ex-part­ner by seiz­ing her by the body has been con­tin­ued for a drug treat­ment and test­ing or­der re­port.

Thirty-eight-year-old Aaron Gif­ford, from Ed­in­burgh, pleaded guilty to com­mit­ting the of­fence at a car­a­van at South­er­ness Hol­i­day Vil­lage in June and also dam­ag­ing prop­erty by kick­ing a ta­ble.

Mean­while Gif­ford was sen­tenced to 12 weeks’ im­pris­on­ment back dated to Au­gust for breach­ing a bail or­der by fail­ing to ap­pear in the court at the end of July.
