Ringing for peace

Dumfries & Galloway Standard - - NEWS -

The bell of a Dumfries church will ring on Sunday evening, joining thousands of others across the UK as part of a tribute remembering the end of World War One.

St Michael’s Church will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War by “ringing for peace ”shortly after 7pm.

The church is taking part in the Battle’s Over programme of remembrance organised by Great Yarmouth based pageantmaster Bruno Peek.

Richard Reade, from the Dumfries kirk, said: “We are taking part and this will be in addition to us holding our original service on the day, and we’ll also be holding a special service for remembrance at 6pm.

“Bruno got in touch and we liked the idea because the bell-ringing signifies something special and is a real celebration of peace for thousands of churches in the country.”
