Funand gamesat Terregles
Terregles SWI held an open evening on Tuesday, October 23.
Greta Allen proffered a warm welcome to members and visitors.
The group was delighted by the impressive turnout of members from the following institutes - Heathhall, Glencairn, Shawhead, Tinwald, Kirkmahoe, Georgetown and Dunscore.
Greta then handed over to Shirley Parker who was to be compere for the evening.
Shirley ran through the procedure for playing ‘Beetle’ and explained that members would play in groups of four and be partnered by the person diagonally opposite each of them.
This worked well until it was time to move on. It would appear that different institutes have different ways of doing this and there was great hilarity when the process of ‘each to his own’ came into play with members moving in all directions.
Everyone very quickly found a new seat and the next game could commence but the pattern had been set for the night and at the end of each game there was much laughter as the next scramble for seats began again.
Shirley made an excellent job of keeping her composure as she guided through the nine games.
At the end of the evening points were totalled and the three highest scorers received a prize.
Greta thanked Shirley and the members for their enthusiastic participation in what was agreed to be a very enjoyable evening’s fun.
The visiting institutes offered a very warm thank you to the Terregles members for making them so welcome and for providing an excellent supper.
The raffle was drawn and Shirley judged the competitions as follows: Insect item - 1 Margaret Heeley; 2 Blanche McCormick; 3 Pamela Uphill.
Notelet - 1 Ann Henderson; 2 Greta Allen; 3 Flora Howie.
Visitors - Insect Item won by Margaret Stewart.
The business meeting then followed which included reports from Cairn Valley and Dumfriesshire Federation.
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 27 at 7.30pm when the guest speaker will be Sheala Nixon talking about canapes.
