This weekend the region will join with The Royal British Legion Scotland and Poppyscotland to mark service and sacrifice made during the First World War. Remembrance Day on Sunday falls on the 100th anniversary of the end of the War with the signing of the Armistice. It was the day when the guns fell silent.

Fighting on land, sea and air came to an end at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month after four years of conflict.

As well as parades and wreath-layings in towns and villages across the area, beacons will be lit as part of a chain across the UK.

There will also be church services, commemoration exhibitions and many arts and musical events.

Here we look at just some of the events that will be taking place
