Thomas Gains­bor­ough School in Great Cornard has been awarded the plat­inum level Arts­mark by the Arts Coun­cil of Eng­land – and cel­e­brated by host­ing a Thomas Gains­bor­ough paint­ing, ‘Wooded landscape with old peas­ant and don­keys out­side a barn’ which dates to around 1755 and is be­lieved to be val­ued at more than £2 mil­lion. The paint­ing was loaned for a day by Gains­bor­ough’s House in Sud­bury and the school’s head of art, Ed Clark, said it was in­spi­ra­tional for all. The day con­cluded with the host­ing of the pop­u­lar public ex­hi­bi­tion show­cas­ing the work of art, pho­tog­ra­phy and tex­tiles GCSE and A level stu­dents.
