Bury St Edmunds Greene & Greene Lawyer

EADT Suffolk - - Women In Business -

How did you choose your current career? I wanted to make a difference and I thought that becoming a lawyer would enable me to do that. How do you achieve a work/life balance? When I first started out I was probably naive about the challenges women faced, but that was a good thing as I didn’t feel constrained by those perceptions and just got on with working hard and doing what I enjoyed. The result was I became a Partner within three years of qualifying as a solicitor. However, I do think things have improved for women since I first started out and there is currently a project called ‘The First 100 Years’, charting the journey of women in law since 1919 (first100years.org.uk). Who inspires you most, personally and professionally? My mum is my biggest inspiration. She always worked incredibly hard and wasn’t afraid to stand up and be counted. She never placed limitations on what I could do and was always there, cheering me on. On a professional level, Professor Ian Smith, who taught me at UEA, inspired me to become an employment lawyer, with his passion for the subject and overall brilliance!
