CAROLINE EDWARDS

EADT Suffolk - - Women In Business -

Caroline, Partner at Carter Jonas and Head of Residential Suffolk, advises on the sale and marketing of country houses and equestrian properties throughout Suffolk and the borders. How did you choose your current career? Truthfully, lack of sleep! I used to work in stockbroking with 5.30am starts. Property seemed an attractive alternative although I quickly learned, to do the job well, I had to put in even more hours albeit with less early starts! I love people and property, hence it made complete sense. In your working lifetime, how do you perceive things have changed for women? Personally, I had a great start in the City. Within a year, my boss encouraged me to take my Stock Exchange exams - promotion immediately followed. I believe if anyone is committed to a job they are good at, they will thrive. Maybe we should concentrate on women being self-empowered by our unique abilities and expressing ourselves confidently. A woman’s natural sympatico and spirit is ideally suited to property. It’s not a competition; we were born to be different and for that to blend together – hopefully brilliantly. Who inspires you most, personally and professionally? Great sports people. A saying that strikes a chord with me is “true freedom comes through restraint and discipline”. As with all things, you have to put in hard work to get lucky. If drive, energy and tenacity combine with compassion and demeanour, you’ve got it. Byrony Frost, the outstanding female jockey and rising star of the racing world, is a shining example. Tel: 01787 882881 E: caroline.edwards@carterjonas.co.uk www.carterjonas.co.uk
