Aldham Church under a late spring sky...

Beautiful Aldham Vale, near Hadleigh, is a peaceful setting for the distinctive, round-towered St Mary’s Aldham church. But don’t be fooled – things weren’t always this tranquil. On nearby Aldham Common, Protestant preacher Dr Roland Taylor, rector of Hadleigh, was burned at the stake in 1555. In happier, more recent times, St Mary’s – one of 38 round tower churches in Suffolk – was a location for filming the second season of the BBC series The Detectorists.
