From Leiston High Street car park (IP16 4BZ) turn right. At crossroads, left (Cross Street). Over next crossroads into Victory Road, past recreation ground. Road becomes footpath, finally bearing right to Church Road.
Enter churchyard (left). Keep right, crossing in front of church to gate marked ’private’ by old Leiston Hall. Stay in churchyard. Follow footpath down hedge to cross road. Turn right. Beyond St Margaret’s Crescent, take footpath (left) by railings. 3
Cross railway line to road. Turn right, passing plant nursery to footpath (‘To Hill Farm’), immediately left between wall and hedge. Path opens out to concrete hard-standing, keep straight ahead on track, then cross-field path which eventually bears left towards Aldhurst Farm / Abbey Lane.
Turn right along road. Take footpath (left) to Leiston Abbey.
Leiston Abbey ruins (English Heritage) are free to visit. Continue ahead to thatched tithe
barn (left). Look for hedge-gap in far-right corner of grassed area. Path leads through copse, past old pits, then across fields to B1122. Turn left (wide verge). Cross road to continue down Potter’s Street.
At Keepers Cottage (left), take footpath (right). Turn left down green lane (signed/ guided), then briefly right (bridleway). Turn left at gatepost into field (houses ahead here; play area far-left), keeping right to stile onto narrow path. At path junction, go left to reach Eastbridge village sign.
Turn right downhill along road. At T-junction turn right, passing Eels Foot pub. To detour for Leiston Old Abbey chapel ruins, take path (left) marked ‘Minsmere Sluice’. Retrace steps.
Turn left onto green lane, bearing right by The Round House. Pass Upper Abbey and keep ahead to Kenton Hills nature reserve car park (left). 9
Enter woods by information boards. Turn right at first path junction by pines (Kenton Hills). Keep right, then take another right (signed 11) to boardwalks for gate into Sizewell Belts.
Follow path across grazing marsh to gates /water. Turn right, along waterside to gate (left). Continue uphill to Leiston Common. As common becomes area of bracken, follow footpath sign (right) to go diagonally back on yourself on a crosscommon path towards telegraph pole and gate.
Turn left down track to meet road (Lovers Lane). Turn right to pass Recycling Centre. Cross road to footpath (left) which meets Valley Road at Carrs Cottage.
Follow Valley Road under railway bridge. Turn left to High Street. N
