“I’ve found my legs again! I feel strong. Three meals a day, bike rides with my brothers, a chance to learn each other’s humour again. It’s a scary time, but I feel balanced, and I’ve enjoyed simple things, taking my children to the veg stall in the village, getting them to pick the new carrots.
“My daughter Evelyn and I took part in the Pounds for Puds fundraiser for Hospitality Action – choux buns and chocolate sauce – and she’s loved turning dinner time at home into a restaurant service. She lays the table, chooses the music, writes the menu, takes everyone’s order. We’ve done theme nights, had Bella Notte from Lady and the Tramp on as we ate meatballs, garlic bread and tiramisù for an Italian evening. I’ve been going at a different pace which has felt really good. I hope I can sustain it.”
